Yes, it would be inefficient (thrashing is more likely than race) unless =
implemented in the Kernel. This is just for floppies, but it does seem =
that if the Kernel could always maintain a floppy in a condition =
equivalent to unmounted that this would be better. That is, after a =
data write, it would then write whatever would be done by an unmount. =
That way, you could always remove a floppy if the LED wasn't on.
