  1. Job Status Monitoring

Still fairly new to the as400, and not done any RPG programming yet.
Coming from a UNIX background, so used to unix and perl scripting with
    lots of free examples available.

I'm looking for a way to monitor some specific jobs that are run at
specific times via the job scheduler. Occasionally these jobs go into
MSGW and I'd like some way to send an email from the AS400 to notify
the IT staff (before users call).

I've read through the archives and seen a couple things that seem to
take the approach of monitoring the qsysopr messages or periodically
scan the active processes. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience
    with any of these:

    http://www.rpgiv.org/QMSG.htm
    http://www.kdpsoftware.co.uk/as400monitoring/index.html
    http://www.bvstools.com/jobwatch.html

I'm also wondering if it needs to be a separate process or there's
some way to wrap the call made from the job scheduler. On unix I'd
make a batch script that actually called the real program, and could
check it's status every so often and take any needed action. Not sure
if that's possible on the iSeries (or if I have the knowledge to do
    it).

    Thanks,
    Steve

    Try this:

Great web site. Lots of example code.
