SCSI Termination needed? - IBM AS400
This is a discussion on SCSI Termination needed? - IBM AS400 ; I bought a 9604-800 with V5R3 from a broker (obviously).
It has 6 dasd drives but reports only 4 and some errors on the
fourth one.
I suspect a scsi termination problem because there is no tape
drive at all.

Martin,
I think, now don't quote me, but if there was a termination problem I
suspect that the system would not even start. I would think it would throw
a hardware problem way before you would be able to IPL.
Now if you do a WRKDSKSTS how many drives does it say are there? You might
see 4 configured and the other 2 are not. Either that or there may be
problems with the other 2. Let's start with what you see on WRKDSKSTS.

Re: SCSI Termination needed?
This is what WRKDSKSTS shows:
(i have to type as i dont have CA running yet)
ASP Unit Serial Type Mod Resource Status
°°°°°°°°°Number°°°°°°°°°°Name
°°1°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° °Â°Â°Â°Â°Â°Â°Â°Â°Unprotected
°°°°°1°°°some # 6718 074 DD001 DPY/Unprotected
°°°°°2°°°some # 6718 074 DD004 Failed
°°°°°3°°°some # 6718 074 DD003 DPY/Unprotected
°°°°°4°°°some # 6718 074 DD002 DPY/Unprotected
This is what it shows even after IPL with drive in position 4 and
5 exchanged or with drives in position 4, 5 and 6 removed. I
checked the serial numbers ok.

Martin,
I think I can help you, but it is going to be very difficult to do over
this NewsGroup. Do you have an IM client that we could chat over? Chat
would make this process go so much quicker.
