come to northern new jersey. I was recently told a company here could
not find qualified people thru newspaper ads.

Too bad that companies that are looking for RPG programmers nearly exist any
    more.

realistically, rpg is no longer the best language for programming the
as400. for batch work, sql procedures are superior because you can
code them quicker than RPG and sql procedure language is cross
platform compatible. For interactive access to the as400 database and
applications, asp.net and windows forms provide a much improved user
experience. For reports, use the PC based reporting tools.

    Steve -

I would agree, however there are those corporation that has the 'true
blue' system that they have iSeries dug into their infrastructure that
they rely on subsystem that runs in RPG/RPGLE etc... It is just that
now there are many tools, languages and skills needed in today business
world. I would love to see demands for RPG jobs up there, but they also
wanted Network, Active Directory, Hardware, Software specialist, and
those 'certifications' such as MCSE, CNNA..etc..

It will be a rare sight to see 20's or early 30's something adults with
those wide bredth of skills than a 40+ skilled person like myself.

I am currenlty getting my MCSE so that employers will open my mails.
They will not considered me for employement because I don't have that
piece of paper saying MCSE certified...than having a 20+ years of
computing experiences from DBA to RPG to SQL to Ops Nav, A+, Network and
    security - go figure!

    Gil

p.s. Please don't bash me on this...I know there are wealth of jobs and
wide ranges of skills for jobs are avail. everywhere..just we can't be
picky or choosing when the employers are doing the same.

OTOH, my employer has had an RPG developer position open for months and
we've only seen one qualified applicant. We're not likely to wait three
or four more months to see if a second one shows up.

  7. Re: AS/400 Analyst programmer looking for a new job.

Here is a brief overview of my professional skills

With nearly 18 years experience as AS/400 analyst-programmer.I am very
    knowledgeable about "IBM midrange" computers.

In addition, my in-depth technical knowledge of the AS/400 system as
well as my senior skill level for programming with RPG languages can
benefit the development of complex applications in a short period of
time without scarifying quality and readability of the code.

Serious, autonomous, and responsible, I advise, resolve problems and
work well under pressure, especially when schedules are tights.

My previous experiences at Compagnie des Bauxites de Guinee / ALCOA
using J.D.EDWARDS (3 years, in Guinea) and ALSCON / REYNOLDS ALUMINIUM
(2 years, in Nigeria) have permitted me to have a good experience in
    overseas.

Also, my knowledge in the distributing and manufacturing fields, as
well as my capacity to easily transfer my knowledge are significant.

Finally, my mobility and good capacity for adaptation allow rapid
    acclimation to new situations.

    Best regards,
