Must have tools?
I was doing some Google searches for "DBU" to see whatever is around and
came across an interesting thread from 1999 when someone asked what are the
must have tools for an AS/400 with a "vanilla" install.
The VAATOOLS app got high marks, as did DBU and Hawkeye, and a lot of system
management tools were named, too. But of the three I listed, only DBU seems
to be current.
So what are your must-have tools?
We are currently on v5.2 but will be upgrading our model 810 to the latest
and greatest later this year.
Thanks!

Re: Must have tools?
Just a small correction, it's TAATOOLS and it is still current. As is
Hawkeye.

Re: Must have tools?
IMHO, big shop or small shop:
Source/version control--Aldon's A/CMS. SoftLanding's Turnover is it's
biggest competitor.
Hawkeye.
Surveyor/400.
TAATOOLs.
RPG Toolbox (if you have any RPG III code and are moving to RPG IV and/or
ILE.)
WDSC (Free if you already have PDM and you do, don't you?) but a few bucks
to get an adequate PC.
Sam
(No affiliation with Linoma--just a satisified customer.)

i use something called RPGAlive that does on screen source
indentation, really slick if you have programs with lots of nested
loops and if statements.

Re: Must have tools?
The ones I use the most
WSDc
DBU
FROG

Re: Must have tools?
Only three tools I use:
1) DBU - absolutely, can not do my work without it.
2) DBU - for many more reasons not already mentioned
3) Hammer - To fix the users, permanently
Good Luck

Re: Must have tools?
I use the TN5250j emulator a lot. I like the fact that it has tabs
like FireFox.

Re: Must have tools?
Gotta haves I know I reach for on every system and cringe when they
aren't there.
Brian.
==For $$==
*DBU - file editor, don't forget it also works on DTAARA and JRNRCV
*TAATOOLS - many, many handy bits in there
*HAWKEYE - the cross reference master
==For $0==
*WRKDBF - this was a free DBU replacement by Bill Reger, not available
anymore sadly
*XMLPREVIEW - http://home.alltel.net/craigru/jcrcmd2.html - by Craig
Rutledge, great for moving code between systems via XML file, also
many other 400 tools use this
*DBG400 - http://www.dbg400.net - by Martin Rowe, used to streamline
copying subsets of production files to test environments.
**also contains the great utility WRKUSROUTQ which is everything I
wanted WRKOUTQ to be
*ISTKT - http://iseries-toolkit.sourceforge.net/ - an open source
project, it is TAATOOLS-like.
**CPYMSGD for copying message descriptions between MSGF how I found
this originally.
