Recently installed samba 3.0.10 under 11i. If I set security to "share"
all is well. But if I set it to "user" nobody can log in from Windows
2000 (and likely XP too).

I THINK it's due to encrypted win-doze passwords. I've had it running
with slightly older versions of samba before and not needed to make a
second samba passwd file with encrypted passwords, as seems to be the
common suggestion.

Can anyone offer any guidance?
