Sounds like a regular old RAM expansion card? A handful of different
companies made them for the 48G -- the interface wasn't something "common"
like CompactFlash or SD cards are today, and the circuitry was simple. Cynox
is still around, but doesn't appear to be selling hardware anymore:

It's not a module. It appears to be a 48G that has been opened, the 32 KB
chip replaced with a 128 KB chip, another 128 KB chip added (for port 1),
and
a 1 MB "card" wired to where the GX would have slot 2 to provide ports 2-9.
