There's no "comparable" alternative, but we do ride on trains, some of
which are quite quick,
live in smaller countries so we don't have to drive so far*, don't
believe
that cheap gasoline is Constitutionally guaranteed, consider it just
another commodity.
And we don't really view it as a "struggle".
(It's not just Europeans, I think the Japanese and the Koreans have a
similar position.
It's the US & Canada that are the outliers.)


*Americans think that 100 years is a long time; Europeans think that
100 miles is a long distance.
