  1. Sound server latency build up

Machine 2.4 Ghz HP laptop 500Mb memory ze5185
    sound card ali5451
    os fedora3

During use with Skype (like net2phone) on contacts to the telephone
system, latency gradually builds from 2 or 3 secs initially to 10 secs
after about a 25 minute conversation. Beyond this latency,
    conversations become awkward.

    Skype is started as
    artsdsp -m skype
and runs using the artsd sound daemon managed by alsa

I have tried running this on the oss driver and this is basically
successful but not the same voice quality. The growing latency is
definitely sound server related, and not present with the oss server.

Any suggestions to resolve this would be much appreciated.

    cheers

    Hi Gary...

Same problem here.. and its driving me nuts.
it got better when i upgraded from onboard sound to a old SBLive!
    (proper hardware mixing) PCI
soundcard... the onboard sound had to be forced into full duplex by the
KDE Sound system and i turned the buffer right down.
i have e-mailed the guys at Skype but heard nothing, but hey.. somewhere
i read there's only 2 guys working on it at present.
    - even ran Windoze Skype via Wine.. but i'd rather forget that
    experience lol
    i wish i could help more, but i'm a newbie .. but i'm learning.. i think
hope i figure it out eventually.. if i do, i will post on here..

    Mark..
