This is a discussion on Firewire/Linux - Hardware ; Does Redhat RHEL 5 come with Firewire support built-in? Does one have to enable it? If so how can this be done? Thanks....

    modprobe ohci1394 (IEEE1394 chipset support)
    modprobe sbp2 (disks)
    modprobe raw1394 (other stuff)

    Note that IEEE1394 disks are seen as SCSI devices, so you'll need to
    have scsi_mod and sd_mod loaded as well. You probably have those things
    loaded already, though, since SATA disks are so common now.
