hardware graphics issue while booting (splash screen)
Hello!
I am not sure whether this is a hardware issue or not: Yesterday I
built my new PC (Asus barebone w. AMD X2 4600+, nvidia crush C51PV
chipset w. nvidia graphics 6150). I installed openSuSE 10.2 which I
used before on my old system.
openSuSE uses a splash screen graphics during boot time of the system
(you can press ESC and get the boot messages but there is still
graphical stuff on the screen ...). During the installation the x
server is not running, and the graphical installation routine
obviously uses the same graphics as the boot routine (framebuffer
graphics or so? I don't know.). Well, eveything worked fine for me,
BUT: during boot and during the whole installation I had and still
have a "triangle" area in the left bottom and some area in the bottom
middle where nothing is shown. This means that the colour in these
areas are different and it is a filled area with no characters or
whatever is shown elsewhere on the screen.
The normal text mode seems to work, though - there are no such issues
during BIOS setup. And the mentioned areas also disappear when the
XServer is running: Everything is working quite well then!
I will do a memtest86+ to see if may be the memory has some errors or
failures. Does anyone know what else I could check? Is this probably a
known issue with the splash screen graphics or whatever you call it? I
have to find out because if it is a hardware problem I would have to
get the box back. I do not want to do this if it is a software
problem ...
Thanks for your help!

Could be an issue with the frame buffer driver that it is used
for the graphical boot up. vga=normal is your friend on the boot
line. This may not be a problem with your system.. could very
well be a frame buffer nuisance.
