I've acquired an old eMachines 170 that, as I understand it, has an intel
845 chipset based motherboard with a Celeron 1.7 GHz processor, built-in
845GL AGP graphics, 1 GB DDR 266/200 SDRAM, and Phoenix Bios v6.0. As I
want to get the best performance out of it under Linux, I'm trying to find
a manual for this motherboard. The problem is that I don't know the
manufacturer and, not being a hardware guru, I don't know how I can find
out. If there are clues on the motherboard itself, I don't know where to
look.
I've done plenty of Googling and there are plenty of manuals out there. I'm
just not sure which one is the right one. I'd be grateful if anyone can
give me a clue. Or make any recommendations as to how to make the most of
this old machine.

I found the manual a few minutes after posting this, at the techguuys site,
but I'd still be interested in hearing any suggestions on how to make the
most of the PC, e.g. can it be overclocked, which is the best RAM to use,
how to make the most of the 845GL graphics controller, and so on.

you are already at light speed with a 1.7GB cpu!
Many of us are quite pleased just to get an 800 or a 933 system!
