Now for something OTHER than SPAM.....
I'm still tinkering with getting NewDeal Office (I say GEOWORKS) to
work in XP. It does come up and open, but I get error messages when
attempting to start any actual apps. Is there an easy workaround OTHER
than the CPU Killer? Has anyone got GWRKS to work in XP WITHOUT the CPU
Killer? I always found Geos to be so much more durable than Windows in
regards to tweaking. Thanks. ;-Deano

Hi Deano,
Getting GEOS to run on XP and getting GEOS to run on a fast CPU are two
separate issues. I have NDO2000 & Breadbox Ensemble running on XP Home
on a 1.1GHz eMachines PC without having to run CPUKiller.
We don't have a definitave speed at which you'll need CPUKiller. That
speed is likely dependent upon things like the brand of CPU and other
specs besides raw clock speed.

Re: Now for something OTHER than SPAM.....
Hi,
With my daughter cleaning up her room at the university (What a mess!) I was
able
to check out if BB Ensemble would give some problems running on XP.
She has an Athlon 1,7 Ghz with XP Home.
I have a copy of BB Ensemble on a USB stick. (64MB)
I've put the shortcut on the stick also.
When I change the compatibility to Win98 it got stuck with a KR07.
So I undid this change.
I only changed the ConfigNT :
files = 120 and
ntcmdprompt
Adjusted the drive letter of the stick.
It runs smoothly.
I tried to set the video to 1024x768, no problem. 1240x1024 crashes
Ensemble.
Switching back to XP and to Ensemble is no problem.
Now I have 2 shortcuts on this usb stick : 1 for XP and one for Win 98se/ME

Oops,
I forgot to mention I didn't do anything to slow down the processor.

I hope you get a much needed answer to this. Sadly there must be thousands
(hundreds? :-) ) waiting for a workable solution for running newdeal under XP
at speed.\\\\\\\\\\

Marco,
Just to clarify... CPUKiller only needs to be running for the few
seconds during which loader.exe is loading the GEOS kernel. After that
everything is fine. We're working to fix the problem with loader.exe.

I was getting KR-09 error messages before, and I changed my
compatibility mode back to unchecked. Now I am getting FM-31 errors when
trying to run writer. Unfortunately, I don't have the listing for error
messages anymore. Any suggestions?

Can you tell us your CPU speed and the version of NDO that you're
running on XP?
Are you saying that you do have NDOxx running in XP but that NewWrite
will not run? FM-31 is the missing (or un-findable) system file error
message. I have seen this problem before and it seems to have something
to do with running apps that deal with opening and closing their own
documents. Do you get the same error when trying to run NewDraw and
NewCalc? Can you play Solitaire and the other games?

At best a dozen.

It definitely is related to some timing loop. Maybe the code that
evaluates the 'tony rating' of the CPU at startup (to later calculate
the processor load).
Might be a loop in a device driver too (busy-waiting for a device
register showing up some reaction or such)
Nothing else make sense

1/2 dozen. If that.
