    Does DICOM permit SOP Instances with different SOP Classes to be part
    of the same Series UID?

    or

    Do all SOP Instances within a single Series UID have to have the same
    SOP Class?

    Also, what about multiple modality codes within a Series?

    Yes, absolutely.

    Not allowed, because Modality (0008,0060) is defined on Series level,
    i.e. needs to be kept constant for all instances of a series.
