  1. Dicom image during exam

    HI,
Can modality generates a dicom series(set of images) encapsulating
jpeg compressed data during exam ( Image Type is ORIGINAL/PRIMARY).
Does the above statement is valid or not?
Can a dicom image created at the first time encapsulte jpeg compressed
    data or not.

    Regards

A more accurate way of stating the capability is: The pixel data of a
dicom image can be compressed using JPEG encoding. Only a subset of
the defined JPEG encoding options are standard/allowed in DICOM. JPEG
encoding the pixel data in a DICOM image is not the same as
encapsulating a JPEG file in a DICOM object (which is how some would
interpret your statement above). JPEG file format (JFIF) which are
often referred to a "jpeg files" contain data which is not part of the
JPEG encoding. With the exception of ultrasound, most modalities don't
jpeg compress the data when they send to other devices; but
workstations and pacs systems, having received the uncompressed images
frequently provide the ability to retransmit them to other systems
using jpeg compression. Most ultrasound systems provide jpeg
compression direct from the modality, especially for ultrasound
multiframe objects. The recently approved MPEG-2 compression transferer
syntax will likely become very common in this area soon. Note - jpeg
doesn't have to be a lossy compression. Just because a dicom image has
been compressed with JPEG, doesn't mean the Original/Primary coding
would be changed. While it should be changed for device doing a jpeg
lossy compression retransmission, you'll probably find the compliance
    on that requirement is spotty

    Thank you very much.
Where can i get the information about the process of converting jpeg
file to dicom.(I dont want tools).

The motivation for CP 400 was, in part, to clarify
    frequent confusion about this. See:
