    In what sense?

Any VT-compatible async. serial terminal should work just fine. Assuming
you're running OpenVMS or one of its earlier versions, SET
TERMINAL/INQUIRE at some point during an interactive session should set
    you up just fine.

Pinouts and such are another question, of course. Both the terminal and
the asnyc. mux or terminal server port will be DTE; so, you'll need
"null modem" ("cross-over") cables to make the connect.

A VT320 terminal might be used as a doorstop for the cabinet doors of
a VAX 8600 (or it might be too low to the floor), as a serial terminal,
and for various other tasks involving the operating systems usually
found running on a VAX 8600 system, but the plastic shell of the VT320
terminal is likely not sufficiently rated to act as a leveling wedge
for a computer system as heavy as the VAX 8600 series. :-)

Did you have a specific task in mind? :-)

The serial console for the VAX 8600 series was usually a printer such
as the LA100 series, but a serial terminal such as a VT320 should work.
There can also be assorted (usually UNIBUS or DECserver LAT) serial
controllers configured with a VAX 8600, and -- if the operating system
supports the serial controller or the terminal server in use -- the
    VT320 should work fine.

For the serial wiring pinouts, please see the OpenVMS Frequently Asked
Questions (FAQ) document and related materials.

One-line questions are often surprisingly difficult to answer, FWIW.
Details, background, operating system information, etc., can all help
tailor the answer to the question.

    Yes.
Provided the 8600 still works of course.
