    I'm using a Maxtor One Touch 4 Plus 1TB External disk connected over
    firewire for 4 months. Until 2.6.26, this disk was steadily reading
    38MB/Sec and writing 26MB/Sec.

    When I installed 2.6.26, reading speed dropped to a steady 24MB/Sec
    while writing speed is unchanged.

    Unfortunately, I've upgraded my motherboard's BIOS same day but since
    the firewire connector on my audigy2ZS is reporting similar speeds with
    the connector on the motherboard, I'm confident that the problem is not
    BIOS related.

    System is running on an Intel Core2Quad Q6600 with P35 chipset (MSI P35
    Platinum) and 4GB RAM.

    right we couldn't release with the new firewire stack,
    as userspace wasn't ready video capture and so on didn't work.

    this is fixed for Squeeze as there we will default to the juju firewire
    stack, see http://wiki.linux1394.org/JujuMigration
