    afair it can be disabled on boot time.

    You can disable AC97 power saving, but that won't fix the problem I am
    describing, because the intel8x0 driver will do a cold reset when
    resuming instead of a warm reset if the config option is enabled,
    whatever the ac97_codec option is.
