  1. ldconfig (of libc6.1 2.7) caused segfault on alpha

Hi all, (please keep Cc to me)

recently, libc6.1 2.7-3 got into testing but it caused
segfault with my all/two alpha machines so I don't understand
    why it got into testing.

I keep libc6.1 2.6.1-6 at present. Is this problem specific
to my system or is there no one who encounterd the problem?

    Thanks in advance, 2007-12-8(Sat)

Because no one reported such a bug while the package was in unstable.

It doesn't happen on my alpha or on the Debian buildd. Please provide more
information about your system's hardware and kernel. (uname -a and cat
    /proc/cpuinfo would be a start.)

  3. Re: ldconfig (of libc6.1 2.7) caused segfault on alpha

    Hi all,

    I believe I found a real bug.
Under LANG=C ldconfig works fine but under LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8
    ldconfig causes segfault.

My log when I installed libc6.1 2.7-3, first under LANG=C
then under LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 (so some messages are in Japanese
but they mean ldconfig caused segfault).

    correction: not ja_JP.UTF-8 but ja_JP.eucJP
(I don't check yet if ja_JP.UTF-8 causes the problem
    or not.)

My alpha machines are so slow and with small HDD
    so I haven't installed UTF-capable terminals.

Please file this as a bug report on the libc6.1 package, then.

FWIW, I can reproduce this bug on my alpha as well (also an ev56). But I
can't reproduce it when I also set LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/debug, that
should make this interesting to diagnose...

I would be inclined to call it "important" rather than serious. I think
even Japanese now defaults to UTF-8 encoding in the installer, so would
argue that a bug that only occurs with the intersection of one particular
architecture and one particular non-default locale which should be
considered deprecated (due to interoperability problems with data created in
other recommended locales) should not be considered release-critical.

Hrm? What terminals are you using that aren't UTF8-capable?

I filed it as an important bug, fortunately (or unfortunately).
On system which one upgrades from woody, sarge to lenny/testing
(like me), ja_JP.eucJP is (or could be) not so rare, I supect.

Like said, the locale name is ja_JP.EUC-JP. not eucJP. I suppose that
    _could_ change things.
