  1. Bug#452557: ITP: bibutils -- interconvert various bibliographic data formats

    Package: wnpp
    Severity: wishlist
    Owner: David Bremner

    Package name : bibutils
    Version : 3.39
    Upstream Author : Chris Putnam
    URL : http://www.scripps.edu/~cdputnam/sof.../bibutils.html
    Programming Lang: C
    License : GPL2
Description : interconvert various bibliographic data formats

    From the homepage:

The bibutils program set interconverts between various bibliography
formats using a common MODS-format XML intermediate. For example, one
can convert RIS-format files to Bibtex by doing two transformations:
RIS->MODS->Bibtex. By using a common intermediate for N formats, only 2N
programs are required and not N²-N. These programs operate on the
command line and are styled after standard UNIX-like filters.

    -- System Information:
    Debian Release: lenny/sid
    APT prefers unstable
APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing')

Kernel: Linux 2.6.22 (SMP w/2 CPU cores)
    Locale: LANG=en_CA.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_CA.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8)
    Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash

Thanks for this, I've been looking for a packaged solution like that
    since some time now!

Some suggestions for the long description though:

The proper capitalization for bibtex is "BibTeX".

    > By using a common intermediate for N formats, only 2N programs are
    > required and not N-N.

This is pointless in the Debian package description: it's a common
technique which is pretty useless to mention IMO.

Besides, what I'm really missing in this description is a complete list
of the supported bibliographic formats. Can you please add it?

    Thanks in advance! Cheers.
