    Thank you for you time Steve.

    We got the following message when booting into 2.6.18-5-amd64:

    Freeing unused kernel memory: 176k freed
    /bin/sh: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypt.so.1: cannot
    open shared object file: No such file or directory
    Kernel panic - no syncing: Attempted to kill init!

    what are you bootargs?
    cat /proc/cmdline

    also try to update your initramfs it looks incomplete
    update-initramfs -u -k $(uname -r)

    you were reporting the bug about 2.6.18-5-amd64 irc,
    how about if you update that? (but maybe my memory is wrong
    also reading man update-initramfs is not that hard,
    there is a "-t" take over switch to overcome aboves situation.
