    Right now it's

    Linux cerberus 2.6.22-2-amd64 #1 SMP Thu Aug 30 23:43:59 UTC 2007 x86_64
    GNU/Linux

    but I had 2.6.21 installed by the installer (from aptitude):

    ii linux-image-2.6.21-2-amd64 2.6.21-6 Linux 2.6.21 image on AMD64

    jlquinn@cerberus:~$ ls -l /sys/class/net/*/device/bus
    lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 2007-10-08 21:50 /sys/class/net/eth0/device/bus
    -> ../../../../bus/pci
    jlquinn@cerberus:~$ ls -l /sys/class/net/*/device/bus/
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 2007-10-08 21:50 devices
    drwxr-xr-x 16 root root 0 2007-10-08 21:50 drivers

    Hmm, I don't see firewire. Looks like eth0 is a real ethernet device.
    Maybe you could boot back into 2.6.21 and try that again?
