  1. New mail arrival notification windows a la Thunderbird?

Hello, I am missing a feature in KMail for popping up a window when new
messages arrive to a mailbox (or simply new mail arrives), as Outlook and
Thunderbird do. The only thing I have seen is the System tray option for
displaying an icon for KMail, but nothing else.

Do you know if there is any way of doing it or a bug asking for this feature?

    Best regards,

    Ender.

One of the advantages of using KDE is that it's quite consistent. Every
application has an entry in the Settings menu to configure notifications.

KMail is no exception and allows you to setup notification on new mail using
    the Settings->Notification menu entry.

Maybe you have the same problem as me. I activated notification for
new mails but the notification only occurs when there's at least one
mail in the mail box. It seems that when the mailbox is empty and a
mail arrives, it's automatically selected as read and the notification
doesn't occur. Then the second mail to come will trigger the new mail
event because there's already a read mail selected. I think it's a bug
but I don't know if I'm the only one to experience this problem.

    (Using IMAP)

Thank you, Isaac, but mmmm...the interface is too poor (stingy?) for me. I
meant something like Subject and Sender headers, as I said, a la Thunderbird
or Outlook. I guess that when you choose 'run a program' none of that
information is passed to the called program, isn't it?

    Best regards,

    Hi,

maybe it is not settings->notification what you want.
I use filters to automatically move emails into folders (each of my customers
    has one).
In some cases i have to check if these emails contain special subject
information. and if so, i let popup a blocking windows that forces me to
react (like critical conditions on machines that i care for).

to do so, i create a filter based on 'From' and 'Subject', add actions 'move
to folder' and 'execute'. 'execute' starts
/usr/bin/kdialog --msgbox "Important message from Maschine X! Check
    immediately!"

    hope it helps.

Yes, it could probably be nearer to what I expect, but I do not like the
concept of a blocking window, and of course not a window in the middle of my
desktop, even if it is going to vanish after some time.

Anyway, thank you very much for your answer. :-)

kdialog can also do passive popups

I created a new filter rule for this like this:

    kdialog --msgbox "Correo" &

    So it doesn't lock.
