network connection problem IBM X40 - Debian

    Sounds like the routing is not reconfigured when inserting the wifi card?
    By doing 'ifdown eth0', you disable the ethernet interface and sounds like routing is reconfigured to wifi (also vice versa when 'ifdown eth1' [?]).

    See 'man ifdown'
