  1. Single quote characters in local part of email address

    Hello,

Does anyone know if single quote (apostrophe)characters are
permitted in the local part of an email address? Based on my
limited understanding of rfc2822, they are.

If they are rfc-compliant then why does the default Exim4
configuration rejects these with a "restricted characters in
    address" message?

Know hot do disable this restriction, but I would like to know if
there is a good reason not to do so.

    Thank you in advance,

That would be great, but this server is a mail relay for our
broadband customers. As such, we have absolutely no control over
    the email addresses involved.

    Thanks for your input anyway.
