It would be nice if could put somewhere on the release notes that
Debian's 2.6.8 is actually 2.6.8.1 plus some patches. It's useful to
note this because 2.6.8 had a major NFS-related problem which made the
kernel guys release 2.6.8.1 right after releasing 2.6.8.
Also, it seems that Debian 2.6.8 kernels have (or will have) the necessary
patches to fix the CD-Writing problems people were having with 2.6.8/2.6.8.1 .

Yeh, I know about that. But the version of the Debian packages doesnt
show this, and the description only mentions 2.6.8. So thats what I went
on. It would be more confusing if the release notes do not match the
version claimed to be packaged. (So maybe the kernel maintainers should
fix that.)

Thats good. I expect most distros shippin 2.6.8 will apply that.
Cheers,
Rob

I think not, it has been released so to avoid queueing of a NEw source.
There are not good reasons to change that, fixes are already listed
within changelog.
