    Hi all,

I'm wondering about something. My update manger is telling me that there
are updates ready to install, but when I try to install them, I get

Anyone have any idea whats up? It doesn't make sence that the notifier
says to update, but everthing comes back 404 Not Found. Could this be the
result of a configuration error, or is it possible that notifications to
update come from a central source, and the mirror that I'm using is just a
little bit out of date? I'm not overly concerned about it, but I do like
everything to be working on my machine. Any help is appreciated.

    Tony.

    What is an "update manager"?

    What O/S are you using?

On second thought, I went to the server and the file isn't listed:

If that server is not up to date soon, I'd get another repo.

The server may be down and / or you may need to change your source.

    Probably this: http://packages.debian.org/update-manager

    > What O/S are you using?

There's actually enough info in the posting to work that out :-)

The content of http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/debian/ strongly implies that
it's a Debian mirror; digging further, it looks like a partial mirror (it
    only has i386 and amd64).

The requested version of x11-common is that which is in 4.0r1. But that
mirror doesn't have that version; it's evidently having some problems,
probably something like being short of disk space.

Best to use a different mirror, I think; ftp.ca.debian.org would probably be
a good choice. It's a straight-forward substitution; just replace the name of
the server in /etc/apt/sources.list, refresh your copy of the package lists
    then upgrade.

    # sed -i -e 's/mirror\.cpsc\.ucalgary\.ca/ftp.ca.debian.org/' /etc/apt/sources.list
    # aptitude update
    # aptitude upgrade

Ah! But since It's not available for Sarge, I never installed it (or
    even knew about it).

Okay, I though the OP might have been using Ubuntu.
