That would be my call on it too... I'd suggest using
    http://helios.cs.csubak.edu in place of http://www.cs.csubak.edu.

There is no such thing as cs.csubak.edu depending on when you try to
access it or do a DNS query on it.

Might also explain why you can't be reached reliably at the email
    address you give above.

Try using http://www.cs.csub.edu/ The CS department has stuck with
"csubak" for some unknown reason, but cs.csub.edu now seems to work.
Roger, would you please try to email me using csub instead of csubak?

Well, I sent the message off, but I doubt it'll go anywhere; I can't
    resolve cs.csub.edu:

    Stench> /usr/sbin/traceroute www.cs.csub.edu
    traceroute: unknown host www.cs.csub.edu

I think the problem is that even the DNS server for cs.csub.edu is
    unreachable.
I can resolve "csub.edu" with nslookup but not the "cs.csub.edu"
getting a timeout error in server answer. This usually means the DNS is
    unreachable.

Hmm. My first attempt gave me lots of info, but I messed up the screen
when I was trying to copy and paste and tried again. On the second
    attempt, I got this:

    DNS Report for cs.csub.edu

Generated by www.DNSreport.com at 13:05:01 GMT on 26 Jun 2006.

[ERROR: I was unable to get an answer from the parent
    servers
[ns3.csub.edu], when I tried to find the NS records for cs.csub.edu.]
    Legend:
    * Rows with a FAIL indicate a problem that in most cases
    really
    should be fixed.
    * Rows with a WARN indicate a possible minor problem, which often
    is
    not worth pursuing.
    * Note that all information is accessed in real-time (except
    where
noted), so this is the freshest information about your domain.

Third attempt again gave me lots of info, including:

    Primary nameserver: pegasus.cs.csubak.edu.
    Hostmaster E-mail address: postmaster.pegasus.cs.csubak.edu.

So, let's give it a go:

    Stench> /usr/sbin/traceroute pegasus.cs.csubak.edu

    In other words, I can't get to cs.csub.edu or www.cs.csub.edu because I
can't get to the nameserver for that domain.

I also tried the secondary nameserver, sumatra.cs.csubak.edu.

This happens to university IT departments in the summer constantly,
the critical people who know how to service the system leave it and
go on vacation, sabbatical, etc., and it goes to crap till they
find someone else to do it, or till fall, whichever comes first.

Wow, they must have eternal summer there because the problem exists
    since a long time.
