  1. problems with ports under openbsd

I keep running into problems quite often when building ports
    under openbsd.

On this occasion I am building KDE, i often run into this silly
conflict where the dependency the build is looking for is already there,
but it keeps appending p# (where # is whatever number) to the end of the
packagename, and the build stops. If i were to remove the package in
question by use pf pkg_delete and run make again, it will continue
where it left off, with no problems.

Why am I continually having this silly issue though??

    Can't install gettext-0.10.40p3 because of conflicts (gettext-0.10.40p1)
    /usr/sbin/pkg_add:
    /usr/ports/packages/i386/all/gettext-0.10.40p3.tgz:Fatal error

Can't remove gettext-0.10.40p1 without also removing:

    You're running a recent OpenBSD, right ?

Read all about the wonders of pkg_add -r and make update FORCE_UPDATE=Yes

  3. Re: problems with ports under openbsd

    I did actually

    i did a cd /usr/ports/packages
    and did a pkg_add -r

despite the man page telling me its dangerous, i went ahead.
it solved the problem and i was able to resume the build.

    Why's it happening though?
I never had this problem under freebsd.

Running openbsd 3.7 and the most recent ports collection available at the
    time 3.7
    was released
