  1. java5 install

    Hi

    Tried to install java5.
    Read: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwork...2.html#install
    also read: http://www-128.ibm.com/developerwork.../aix/faqs.html

    I downloaded the tar.gz
    then: gunzip -c packagename.tar.gz | tar -xvf -

It generates me a file like "java5.5.3.0.0.sdk". Everything seems fine
but no bff ( I have also downloaded in the same folder the
"java5.5.3.0.100.sdk.bff" (name are not copied but represent well the
    result).

    did inutoc .
went to the target p570 LPAR, cd to the NFS mount folder containing
    the fiels and bffs.
    smitty install_all
    and
    smitty update_all
    does not recognized the files...

Shoudl I rename them with a bff extension?

    What else?

    PS oslevel = 5300-05-06

    ========================
To be more clear. Smitty sees only the updates not the base filesets.

    Thanks again

or should I use directly installp with these packages?
I prefer smitty as is it the recommended tool.

    installp -a -v -p -V 4 -d ./Java5*64*.0
    then
    installp -a -v -V 4 -d ./Java5*64*.0
    installp -c all

    OK
    Forget this
I was finally able to install Java5_64

I removed the *bff from the folder and I was able to install Java5.

    Case closed.
    Will read more.

    Thanks
