Thread: FTP transfert causes 100% use of rootvg

  1. FTP transfert causes 100% use of rootvg

    hello

    i made an Oracle Dump.

When i get my dump ( 7 Go ) with ftp, the server is like hang.
I can not send any command with my terminal.

the transfert is short ( less than f5 minutes ), is complete. And
    after all is ok.

    the server responde good.

During the transfert, i have see with topas that the rootvg's disk is
    100 % busy.
I understand why the server seems hang when the rootvg's disk is 100 %
    busy.

but i don't understand why the transfert cause 100% !!

    the server :
    Aix 5.3 with VIO server
    10 Go of RAM
10 go of swap on rootvg.
the disks are on a SAN
    the network is 1000 mo

    if you have any idea

    Thanks

    ----------

    machine.
c'est un Aix 5.3 virtuel , avec un VIO serveur, 10go de ram, 10 go de
swap, un reseau au giga. Les disques sont sur un SAN plutot
    performant.

Serait-ce le réseau qui est trop rapide ?

    si vous avez des idées
    Merci à vous

    Fabien

Looks like that the system is freeing pages to cache your 7GB
file(s) ;-) thus paging out running programs...
    Nice to read
    http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/ai...un3/index.html
    will lead to something like:

    vmo -p -o lru_file_repage=0
    vmo -p -o minperm%=5
    vmo -p -o maxperm%=90
    vmo -p -o maxclient%=90

with the help of the support
    we do
    vmo -p -o lru_file_repage=0

and the result was very good.
    just one parameter change life

it's a good idea to change maxperm, maxclient and minperm aswell to
get full benefit of the lru page behaviour
