    Oops:

    Filesystem size changed to 7700480
    0503-409 installp: bosboot verification starting...
    rmlv: Logical volume hd5 is removed.
    hd5

    Error: No space available to create a larger boot logical volume.

    In order to proceed with this installation the size of the boot logical
    volume (hd5) must be increased to 20 MB. At this time there are not 3
    contiguous physical partitions available on the boot disk (hdisk0) for
    recreating the larger boot logical volume. You must free up this space
    by removing or relocating one or more logical volumes or file systems
    from hdisk0. Use "lspv -M hdisk0" to see its current partition allocation
    map.

    0503-497 installp: An error occurred during bosboot verification
    processing.

    There is enough space occupied by /home that could be used to reassign
    to hd5. chfs gives "chfs: 0506-908 Cannot reduce size of file system."
    So how do I solve this, apart from complete reinstall?

  2. Re: exporting DISPLAY question/problem

    So the download succeeded without any problem or error messages ?

    We will find out if and where space is left.
    The point is that the system needs "3 contiguous physical partitions"
    So you might have space left but not as needed.

    Get hdisk assigned to the rootvg
    $ lsvg -p rootvg

    How much space is left within rootvg and type of fs
    $ lsvg -l roovg
    $ lsvg rootvg

    Get hdisk available in the system
    $ lspv

    Get used disk space
    $ df

    and the mentioned
    $ lspv -M hdisk0

    move all data from hd2 out of hdisk0 onto hdisk1
    $ migratepv -l hd2 hdisk0 hdisk1

    Now you have enough free continues partitions for hd5 but it means
    that all stuff from hd2 (/usr ) will be on hdisk1 thus you can not
    mirror your logical volumes.

    Run now the update proccess - update_all ... - again and anything
    should be fine.

    If you can reinstall i would suggest
    - Use a least a pp-size of 64MB for disk larger or equal 2GB
    - Use JFS2 - meaning you can reduce the fs size on the fly

    If you can not reinstall and you would like to mirror you should ask
    again.

    regards

    installp: * * * A T T E N T I O N ! ! !
    Software changes processed during this session require this system
    and any of its diskless/dataless clients to be rebooted in order
    for the changes to be made effective.

    install_all_updates: Checking for recommended maintenance level 5300-07.
    install_all_updates: Executing /usr/bin/oslevel -rf, Result = 5300-04
    install_all_updates: ATTENTION, the system recommended maintenance level
    does not correspond to the highest level known to install_all_updates.
    For more details, execute /usr/bin/oslevel -rl 5300-07.

    install_all_updates: Log file is /var/adm/ras/install_all_updates.log

    So, did it fail again or is it ok now?! (Why?)

    Sounds like a good suggestion anyway.

    It does not fail really. Its just says that not all filesets could be
    upgraded for a certain reason ($ more /var/adm/ras/
    install_all_updates.log )

    For the sake of security issue a
    $ bosboot -ad /dev/hdisk0

    To check which packages has not been upgraded just follow their advice
    $ /usr/bin/oslevel -rl 5300-07

    Run update_all once more again. Might fix update problems as well

    After all reboot .

    > Sounds like a good suggestion anyway.

    Depends. You do not learn that much with a perfect configured
    system :-)

    Ok, found some info about using suma on Rootvg.net, but now I get this:

    automatically installed. Additional filesets (13) would have been
    installed automatically had the selected filesets passed all requisite
    checks.

    << End of Failure Section >>

    So I do "smit suma" on bos.iconv.com 4.1.0.0 and get this:

    COMMAND STATUS

    Command: failed stdout: yes stderr: no

    Before command completion, additional instructions may appear below.

    0500-018 An internet request failed.
    0500-014 The fix server responded with the following error condition:

    How should I go on?

    I have had problem with the TL7 regarding dependencies as well. Do a
    $ cd /usr/sys/inst.images
    $ installp -d . -aYX invscout.com csm.core bos.txt.spell

    after all the packages are not related to ssh and X

    Yet more missing requisites, like bos.rte 6.0.0.0. Trying to install
    them with SUMA, but bos.rte ends in failure:

    Can you login from your linux into your linux box with ssh and run

    Works like a charm...

    Now do the same without the -Y thus ssh should behave like rsh

    $[LXBOX] ssh LXBOX
    ${LXBOX} echo $DISPLAY
    ${LXBOX} xclock

    If it is not working get it to work - its linux
    If it is working then login to your AIX box also without the -Y or any
    other option
    $[LXBOX] ssh AIXBOX
    $[AIXBOX] echo $DISPLAY
    $[AIXBOX] xclock

    If that is not working the probably the problem is on the linux site.
    Check your linux documentation howto enable remote display and check
    as alreay mentioned by others the name resolution meaning that each
    host should be in the /etc/hosts within the other host and they can
    ping each other.

    Ok, checking on the linux docs now...
    Adding my IP to /etc/hosts had no result.

    I'm finding some other results as well:

    $ xclock
    Error: Can't open display:
    $

    and

    $ startx
    Environment variable DISPLAY was set to 192.168.30.110:0
    Please wait - starting your session

    Though nothing further happened.
    Then I tried what it all started with: wsm:

    $ wsm &
    [1] 10092
    $ host: 0827-803 Cannot find address 192.168.30.110.
    mkdir: 0653-357 Cannot access directory /usr/java14/.private142/jre.
    /usr/java14/.private142/jre: The file access permissions do not allow
    the specified action.

    (nothing further, eventually ended with
    ^C
    $

    Can you explain all this? I've tried to find info on
    Fedora/AIX/(open)ssh, but found nothing usable so far.

    The point is simple to get an old fashioned remote display to work
    without any tunneling needed.
    You have to find out what the cause of the problem is. This means to
    simplfy the problem as much as possible. And an easy approach is just
    to use ssh without any option since it set the display variable right
    away or use rsh and set the display variable by hand.
    Eitherway this has to function first on the linux box because if it
    will not work there how shall work from another machine ?

    So configure your fedora linux box for remote display without using
    tunneling. ( Do not forget to use ( xhost + )
    In the old unparanoid days a simple
    $[LXBOX] xhost +
    $[LXBOX] rsh LXBOX
    ${LXBOX} export DISPLAY=LXBOX:0.0
    ${LXBOX} xclock
    was enough

    So read the documentation about fedora to get an standard rsh/ssh
    access for remote display.

    BTW: If you logii to another server the command
    $ who am i
    give also some usefull information
