Use Thunderbird or Seamonkey for that. I don't use pan as a pic viewer.
Why not use the multiple apps available. Don't you have several groups of
apps that do the same thing? If you have kword why do you also have
OOffice installed? If you have KDE installed why do you also have XFCE
installed? If you have kmail why also have thunderbird? If you have
'less' installed what do you also have 'more' installed?

Does it not work perfectly for "news only" reading or not?

The problem is pan is apparently undergoing some sort of "inspirational
moment" and we have become BETA testers. They know if they dangle the
morsel under our nose, the NEWEST version, people will blindly follow
the Pied Piper. They do it all the time - Upgrade bbecauseof no good
reason and the latest greatest turns out to be a POS.

Slackware also has included the new piece o' crap Pan version and almost
everyone that preferred pan reverted to the older version from what I've
been reading.
